What Is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing technique that uses a fine manual hand tool to deposit pigment in delicate, hair-like strokes within the upper layers of the skin — recreating the look of natural brow hairs. The result is fuller, beautifully shaped, defined brows that need no daily pencil or powder. It's semi-permanent: results commonly last 18–36 months and fade gradually, with color refreshes to maintain them. Microblading suits normal-to-dry skin best — on very oily skin the fine strokes can blur, so powder/ombré brows may be recommended instead. At DK Aesthetics, brows are custom-mapped and crafted with premium Swiss Color pigments by a Swiss Color Academy certified artist.

Key Takeaways

  • Fine, hair-like strokes create the most natural-looking semi-permanent brows.
  • Results are semi-permanent — commonly 18–36 months — and fade gradually.*
  • Best for normal-to-dry skin; oily skin may suit powder/ombré brows better.
  • Includes a perfecting touch-up (~6–8 weeks) after initial healing.
  • Crafted with premium Swiss Color pigments by a certified artist.

What Brings Clients In

Sparse over-plucked brows, time lost to daily makeup, and the fear of a "tattooed" look — these are the three things we hear most before clients choose microblading.

  1. 01

    Sparse or Over-Plucked Brows

Years of plucking — or just genetics — have left your brows thin, patchy or uneven.

Hair strokes fill and reshape naturally
  2. 02

    Time Lost to Daily Makeup

You spend precious minutes every morning penciling in brows that smudge by midday.

    Wake up with finished brows
  3. 03

    Afraid of the 'Tattooed' Look

You want natural — not the harsh, blocky brow tattoos of the past.

    Delicate, realistic hair-by-hair strokes

Mapped, Crafted, Perfected

A careful, custom process for brows that look like they grew that way.

  1. 01

    Consultation & Mapping

We design your brow shape to suit your face and preferences, and select the perfect Swiss Color shade.

  2. 02

    Hair-Stroke Artistry

Using a fine manual tool, your artist creates delicate, hair-like strokes of pigment, one by one.

  3. 03

    Healing

Brows heal over about 4–6 weeks; color softens and settles as the skin recovers.

  4. 04

    Perfecting Touch-Up

Around 6–8 weeks, we refine shape and color so your brows are exactly right.

The artistry is in the strokes: their direction, spacing and curve are mapped to mimic your natural hair growth. Done by a trained, certified artist, the result reads as your brows — only better.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Microblading at DK Aesthetics.

It's semi-permanent — typically 18 to 36 months, depending on your skin type, lifestyle and aftercare. It fades gradually, and most clients return for a color refresh. A perfecting touch-up about 6–8 weeks after your first session is part of the process.
That's the goal. Using a fine manual tool, your artist creates delicate, hair-like strokes mapped to your natural growth — so the result looks like fuller, well-shaped brows, not a harsh tattoo. We design the shape with you before any pigment is applied.
A numbing cream keeps you comfortable. Most clients describe only mild scratching or pressure. The appointment is relaxed, and we take our time.
Brows go through about 4–6 weeks of healing. They look bolder at first, then soften; there may be light scabbing or flaking in the first week or two. We provide detailed aftercare to protect your results.
Don’t panic — this is the normal ‘ghosting’ phase. After the scabs flake off around days seven to ten, the color can look faint or seem to vanish for a week or two while fresh skin heals over the pigment. It resurfaces as the skin settles, and you’ll judge the true result at about six weeks, once we perfect it at your touch-up. Individual results vary.
No — microblading won’t damage your natural brow hairs. The pigment is deposited in the upper layers of skin, above the hair follicles, so it doesn’t affect how your own hair grows. Your natural hairs stay exactly as they are; the hair-like strokes simply fill and frame around them for a fuller, defined shape. Individual results vary.
Skip sweaty workouts, swimming pools, saunas and hot yoga for the first seven to ten days, until the brows have flaked and healed — sweat and soaking can lift pigment and invite irritation. Light walks are fine, and you can return to your normal routine once healing is complete. We’ll send you home with a simple, day-by-day aftercare card.
When performed by a trained, certified artist with sterile, single-use tools, microblading is generally very safe. As with any cosmetic tattoo there are risks like allergic reaction or infection. Note that PMU pigments are regulated as cosmetics and none are FDA-approved for injection into the skin. We review your health history and contraindications (such as pregnancy) beforehand.
We review your full health history first, because microblading isn't right for everyone. It's generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if you're on blood thinners, or if you've taken isotretinoin (Accutane) within roughly the past year, as well as for those prone to keloid scarring or with certain skin conditions in the brow area. If you have a condition such as well-managed diabetes, we may ask for clearance from your doctor. We'll talk through anything relevant at your consultation.
Microblading is $550 for the initial session at DK Aesthetics in Highland Park, with your brows mapped and crafted by a Swiss Color Academy certified artist, and the perfecting touch-up 6–8 weeks later is part of it — brows are built across two appointments, and the figure covers the pair. Results commonly last 18–36 months and fade gradually; when you are ready for a color refresh, we plan the timing and the figure with you then. Individual results vary.
